Building Stronger Communities

Our Approach

At Trauma Rescue Aid, our goal is to work towards peace and justice in our communities and to help our community leaders by becoming peacebuilders too.

As survivors of war, we recognize that conflict leaves deep emotional wounds that must be healed before trust can be restored and genuine dialogue and reconciliation can occur.

Community-Led Engagement

We don’t impose solutions. Instead, we listen to the voices of communities and survivors to understand their stories, fears, and hopes. Our programs are co-created with the community to ensure relevance, respect, and ownership..

Trauma-Informed Practices

Healing comes before peace. We integrate trauma counseling into all our peacebuilding activities, helping individuals and families rebuild emotionally so they can participate meaningfully in reconciliation and dialogue.

Peacebuilding Trainings & Workshops

Every quarter, we conduct specialized trainings and workshops on key peacebuilding topics, including conflict resolution, non-violent communication, and leadership for peace. These sessions are designed for individuals, families, and community leaders, equipping them with the necessary tools to manage conflict constructively and contribute to long-term peace in their communities. These workshops also serve as a space for continuous learning and capacity-building for those engaged in peacebuilding efforts.

Inclusive Participation

We intentionally include women, youth, and marginalized groups often excluded from formal peace efforts ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table and a role in building peaceful communities

Culturally Respectful Mediation

We honor the cultural traditions and social dynamics of the Sudanese refugee community. Whether it’s family reconciliation or community dialogue, we use approaches that reflect the values and languages of the people we serve.

Advocacy and Collaboration

In addition to our direct work with communities, we actively advocate for policies and practices that support peace and healing. We collaborate closely with local partners such as DNHR (Darfur Network for Human Rights) and EIC (Education in Crisis) to ensure a united and powerful voice in promoting the rights of Sudanese refugees

Empowering Survivors Through Healing

At TRAID, we understand every survivor’s story is unique. Our trauma recovery programs don’t just help individuals; they uplift entire communities. We use storytelling, art, and group support to create safe environments for healing. Together, we not only focus on individual recovery but also on rebuilding hope and resilience.
