Trauma Rescue Aid (TRAID) is a refugee-led grassroots organization supporting survivors of war, sexual violence, torture, and forced displacement from Sudan. Based in Uganda, we provide transformative trauma-informed counseling, healthcare referrals, human rights advocacy, and peacebuilding programs. We empower refugee women and girls to heal, reclaim their voices, pursue justice, and rebuild their lives with dignity. Join us in creating a future of hope and resilience for communities affected by conflict.
Through grassroots, culturally rooted approaches, we provide trauma-informed support to Sudanese refugees through home-based and center-based counseling, legal and medical referrals, and awareness campaigns. We empower survivors of war and sexual violence, especially women and girls, with emotional healing, rights education, and access to justice.
We offer confidential, trauma-informed counseling through twice-weekly home visits for survivors facing stigma or cultural barriers. For those seeking a safe community space, our Mukono center provides daily individual and group sessions led by professional counselors, focusing on emotional healing, self-esteem, and resilience.
We support women and girls affected by war and sexual violence by linking them to trusted health centers for emergency care, post-rape treatment, and reproductive services. We break barriers like fear, stigma, and language to ensure access to healing. For legal support, we work with human rights defenders to provide safe pathways to justice and accountability.
We raise awareness on human and women’s rights through advocacy campaigns with the support of the Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR), advocating for justice for survivors of war crimes and violence. We refer human rights violation cases to DNHR for documentation and follow-up and empower survivors to speak out and become advocates for justice in their communities.
Our grassroots approach to conflict resolution and non-violent communication prioritizes culturally rooted, community-led solutions that promote peace and healing. We also engage local leaders, civil society, and human rights actors to advocate for justice, accountability, and trauma recovery.
Every day, survivors of war and displacement struggle silently with the pain of trauma, loss, and stigma. Your support can be the light in that darkness.
